Take a family vacation without leaving the city of Loja!

Jipiro recreational park is noted for being Ecuador's first theme park dedicated to cultural diversity. The park is dotted with scale model replicas of world famous architectural buildings for children to climb around in.

The kids will also enjoy a Flintstones-style train and a larger steam locomotive with Pullman cars - neither train moves but they are fun to climb on and have pictures taken. Oversize figures of llamas and people with a burro are also for picture posing. There is even a fighter jet airplane to climb up into - yet another great photo op.

If you are drawn to water, there is a pond with paddle boats that encircles an island of waterfowl. Or, one can choose to sit on a bench by the pond and watch the swans (both black and white), geese and ducks as they lazily swim by. A variety of South American birds nest in the park's trees.

At the southern end of the park is located a municipal swimming pool with planetarium but note this facility is closed on Mondays for maintenance. The park is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and has two camping areas.

For the more actively-minded, a recent addition is an exercise area for working out, which compliments the trails for walking, jogging, biking, and horseback riding. As well, you will find a skatepark and several ball playing fields - including some with synthetic turf.

Should you work up an appetite there are several kiosks disguised as grass huts that offer up souvenir trinkets as well as snack food and drinks. Park staff are available on site from 8 am to 6 pm.

This popular recreation attraction draws between five and six thousand visitors each week and yet never feels crowded because of the large space and variety of activities going on.

Jipiro Park just kind of has a little bit of everything needed to enjoy a time outside, including benches for the adults to sit on while the young ones race around. Add Jipiro Park to your list of places to go, things to see, and you just might find yourself going back again and again.
