Natural lawnmowers, ecological solution in Loja

OK, yes, the title of this post is a joke. But you won't find many actual gas or electric powered lawnmowers in the city of Loja. A lot of homes don't even have a grass-carpeted lawn. Those that do might hire a grass cutter instead of maintaining the area themselves. And that feat of shortening the grass blades is often accomplished by using a weed-whacker instead of a mowing machine.

In the photo above I should note that this playground is normally attended to by municipal workers who whack the grass and rake up the clippings about once every 6 weeks. Yet, if the job can be done without mechanical intervention then I say, let the cows roam.
